Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
The move follows recent defections within the state’s political landscape. Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, recently left the PDP for the APC, and 15 other lawmakers also joined him, citing internal divisions within the PDP as their reason for leaving.
During a plenary session on Friday, Amaewhule stated the lawmakers’ decision, highlighting the “clear division” in the PDP.
Declaring his new political allegiance, Amaewhule said, “APC is my new party. I will do all that is required to ensure that my All Progressives Congress party card is issued promptly.”
