Transport Minister Orders NRC to Improve Service Delivery

The Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, has instructed the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) to accelerate reforms across the country’s rail network to enhance safety, reliability, and overall service delivery.

The directive was contained in a statement released on Tuesday by Alkali Jibril, the minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.

Alkali said the order followed growing public feedback and recent concerns raised by passengers regarding operational lapses within the rail system.

“Over recent weeks, passengers have expressed their concerns through media reports and community forums, offering deeply valuable insights into the safety and reliability of our rail services,” he noted.

The minister said the government has already initiated decisive interventions, including a comprehensive review of rail operations and safety protocols, stronger monitoring and accountability frameworks for management and frontline workers, and enhanced channels for public feedback and transparency.

Reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to a safer and globally competitive rail system, Alkali also commended the media for responsible reporting that amplified citizens’ concerns.

He thanked Nigerians for their patience and constructive criticism, stressing that public vigilance plays a critical role in improving governance.

Alkali also saluted frontline railway staff for their dedication, assuring them that the government would continue to support their efforts.

“The government remains committed to transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement as we work toward a safer and more efficient railway system nationwide,” he added.
