Army strike team neutralises 11 bandits, foils planned attack in Sokoto

The 8 Division of the Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Joint Task Force North-West (Operation Fansa Yanma) has announced that its Strike Team deployed to combat banditry and terrorism in Sokoto successfully neutralised 11 bandits and seized a significant cache of weapons.

In a statement released on the Nigerian Army Headquarters’ official social media channels, the military said the operation was carried out following precise and credible intelligence.

The statement explained that the Strike Team launched a carefully planned ambush, engaging the bandits in a fierce firefight. The operation resulted in the neutralisation of 11 bandits, while several others fled with gunshot wounds. Recovered items included eight AK-47 rifles, five additional magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

According to the Army, the decisive operation—conducted near Kurawa Village in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area—also disrupted an imminent attack on Tara Village, a strategically important route frequently exploited by terrorist and bandit groups.

The Army noted that the mission not only averted a planned assault but also dealt a major setback to the terror and bandit networks operating within the Sabon Birni axis, which has been a persistent hotspot.

It added that the swift and strategic action taken by the troops reflects their steadfast commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents in Sokoto State and neighbouring communities.
