FG Temporarily Opens Section 1 of Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway

Commuters in Lagos received a boost ahead of the festive season as the Federal Government on Friday temporarily opened Section 1 of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.

The 47-kilometre stretch runs from the Ahmadu Bello Way junction to the Eleko village junction.

Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced the opening at a ceremony attended by government officials, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. He said the move will ease travel and put an end to the difficult driving conditions long endured by motorists along the Lekki–Ajah corridor.

With Section 1 now open to traffic, Umahi said the government has delivered on its promise. During an inspection tour last month, he had assured that the section would be completed and opened between December 12 and 17, 2025.

Umahi added that the full completion of Section 1 is slated for April 2026.

The Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway is designed to connect nine coastal states, beginning in Lagos and ending in Cross River, while passing through Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states.
