FG Prohibits Admission, Transfer of SS3 Students Nationwide

The Federal Government has announced a nationwide ban on the admission and transfer of students into Senior Secondary School Three (SS3) across all public and private secondary schools, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session.

The directive, issued by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, is aimed at curbing examination malpractice and strengthening the credibility of Nigeria’s education system.

According to the ministry, the decision follows rising concerns over unethical practices, including the proliferation of so-called “special centres” during external examinations. Under the new policy, student admissions and transfers will be limited strictly to SS1 and SS2, with no exceptions permitted for SS3.

Education officials explained that the measure is designed to prevent last-minute student movement for examination advantages, ensure proper academic monitoring, and promote continuity in teaching and learning.

School owners, principals, and administrators nationwide have been directed to comply fully with the policy, with a warning that violations will attract appropriate sanctions in line with existing education laws and regulations.

Reaffirming its commitment to academic integrity, the ministry stated that the policy underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to uphold educational standards, promote fairness, and restore public confidence in national examinations.
