Private Jet Crash-Lands at Kano Airport, Passengers Unharmed

A private jet operated by Flybird Aircraft Management Services Ltd has crash-landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano State.

The Abuja–Kano flight, with registration number 5N-ISB, experienced the incident on Sunday morning while attempting to land, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

In a statement issued by Flybird’s Corporate Communications Department, the company confirmed that all 11 passengers and crew members on board were uninjured and safely evacuated from the aircraft.

The operator stated that the flight crew adhered strictly to established operational and safety procedures, successfully bringing the aircraft to a controlled stop. The aircraft has since been secured, and the incident formally reported to the relevant aviation authorities.

“A detailed technical inspection and investigation are ongoing in line with regulatory requirements,” the statement said, reaffirming Flybird’s commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Flybird Aircraft Management Services, a non-scheduled operator based in Abuja, obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in June 2024. However, the company has recorded previous incidents, including an Accra-bound flight that reportedly lost two engines mid-air seven months later.

The incident adds to a series of aviation mishaps recorded across the country in recent months. On May 24, two people were injured when a training aircraft crash-landed at Ilorin Airport, Kwara State. Similarly, on December 11, 2024, a cargo aircraft operated by Allied Air crash-landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following a landing gear failure. An earlier helicopter crash in Port Harcourt on October 24, 2024, claimed three lives.

Aviation authorities are expected to release further details following the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
