Lagos, Nigeria – December 14, 2025
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a significant reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, in a move aimed at easing the cost burden on Nigerians ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Effective Tuesday, December 16, 2025, petrol will be sold at ₦739 per litre in Lagos at partner filling stations, beginning with MRS Oil & Gas and other marketers sourcing directly from the refinery. The company disclosed that the price reduction will be rolled out nationwide in phases.
The latest adjustment follows a recent cut in the refinery’s ex-depot (gantry) price to ₦699 per litre from ₦828 per litre, which took effect on December 11, 2025. This represents the 20th price adjustment by the refinery in 2025, reflecting ongoing efforts to align local fuel prices with the benefits of domestic refining.
According to the refinery, the new pricing structure allows for minimal logistics and transportation costs—estimated between ₦15 and ₦40 per litre, depending on location—ensuring that consumers directly benefit from reduced production and supply-chain expenses.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Lekki refinery, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, said the company was committed to transferring cost savings to Nigerians despite prevailing market pressures.
“We are determined to ensure Nigerians enjoy the advantages of locally refined fuel,” Dangote said. “By significantly lowering our gantry price and working with our partners to enforce competitive pump prices, we aim to provide meaningful relief during this festive season and beyond.”
He also called on more independent marketers to patronise the refinery in order to expand fuel availability across the country.
To further support marketers, Dangote Petroleum Refinery has reduced its minimum purchase volume to 500,000 litres and introduced supportive measures, including access to credit facilities, where applicable.
Industry observers say the price cut is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, particularly during the peak holiday travel period, while also contributing to broader economic stability by easing fuel-related expenses for households and businesses.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to energy security, job creation, and the supply of high-quality petroleum products at competitive prices, positioning domestic refining as a key pillar in Nigeria’s energy and economic transformation.
