Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have provided meters to approximately 187,000 customers over a two-month period, according to data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The figures, detailed in NERC’s latest metering fact sheet, show that 80,943 customers were metered in September and 106,822 in October 2025, bringing the total to 187,765 meters.
The national metering rate rose from 55.37% in September to 56.07% in October, reflecting a notable improvement. Active electricity customers slightly increased from 12.03 million to 12.07 million, while total metered customers grew from 6.66 million to 6.76 million during the period.
Highlights by DisCo include:
- Aba Disco: Met its rate from 69.49% in September to 78.20% in October.
- Eko and Ikeja DisCos: Maintained top performance with rates above 84%.
- Abuja Disco: Added 19,118 meters, achieving a 74.82% metering rate.
- Other contributions: Aba – 18,906 meters; Ikeja – 17,046; Ibadan – 15,739.
NERC noted continued efforts by DisCos with less than 50% metering rates, including Enugu, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, and Yola, to meter new customers. However, the regulator emphasized that accelerated meter rollout remains necessary to close the existing metering gap.
