The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained popular TikTok streamer Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly and threatening to crash his car while livestreaming on social media.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025, resulted in a road crash along the Lekki–Epe Expressway, Lagos.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the police said the arrest followed the circulation of the video in which the 20-year-old content creator appeared visibly distressed before crashing his vehicle.
According to the command, Peller’s actions amounted to an alleged attempt to commit suicide and posed a serious danger to other road users.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat, also known as ‘Peller’, subsequent to a viral video that surfaced online on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash while the incident was being live-streamed,” the statement read.
“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangered the lives of other innocent road users,” it added.
The police disclosed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive investigation, noting that the outcome would be made public and the suspect charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in accordance with the law.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, also warned social media influencers and members of the public against using online platforms to promote or engage in dangerous acts.
“Such lawlessness will not be tolerated, and the full weight of the law will be applied to any offender,” the statement said, while urging motorists to strictly comply with traffic regulations.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the prosecution of the TikToker for multiple traffic violations.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC said the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, directed the Lagos State Sector Commander to commence prosecution, citing offences including the use of a mobile phone while driving.
Mohammed expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of dangerous behaviour by celebrities and content creators seeking online attention.
“This incident, which could have resulted in loss of lives, serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads,” he said.
The FRSC emphasized that public roads are not studios or streaming platforms, warning that it would not hesitate to enforce the law against any offender, regardless of social status. It also urged entertainment bodies and influencer networks to promote responsible conduct, noting the strong influence public figures have on young people.
The crash reportedly triggered the vehicle’s airbags and drew the intervention of bystanders. Peller was hospitalised, though his medical condition has not been officially disclosed.
The incident has continued to generate public debate. Peller had recently announced the purchase of a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV on December 6, 2025. Reports also indicate that he had been experiencing personal challenges, including a recent breakup with fellow content creator Jarvis, which may have contributed to his distress.
