The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the nominations of three non-career ambassadors, marking the first set of ambassadorial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu since he assumed office on May 29, 2023. The confirmed nominees are:
- Lateef Kayode Kolawole Are (Ogun State)
- Aminu Muhammad Dalhatu (Jigawa State)
- Emmanuel Ayodele Oke, CFR (Oyo State)
Their confirmations followed the consideration of a report from the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which conducted the screening exercise. The names were initially forwarded to the Senate on November 26, 2025.
Meanwhile, 64 other ambassadorial nominees, who have been screened, are still awaiting confirmation.
President Tinubu has also nominated 32 additional individuals for ambassadorial roles, including notable figures such as former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, immediate past INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and ex-presidential aide Reno Omokri. Others include former governors Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), former deputy governor Femi Pedro (Lagos State), businessman and Ondo Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, former Ekiti First Lady Erelu Angela Adebayo, and former Adamawa Senator Grace Bent.
A breakdown of the nominations reveals a focus on gender representation, with four women among the career ambassadors and six women among the non-career ambassadors.
The list of non-career ambassadorial nominees also includes Ogbonnaya Kalu (Abia), former Plateau State Commissioner Yakubu N. Gambo, ex-Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Anambra), former Oyo First Lady Fatima Florence Ajimobi, former Lagos Commissioner Lola Akande, and former ambassador to the Holy See, Paul Oga Adikwu (Benue State).
In addition, President Tinubu has nominated career ambassadors and high commissioners from across the country, including Enebechi Monica Okwuchukwu (Abia), Yakubu Nyaku Danladi (Taraba), Miamuna Ibrahim Besto (Adamawa), Musa Musa Abubakar (Kebbi), Syndoph Paebi Endoni (Bayelsa), and Chima Geoffrey Lioma David (Ebonyi), among others.
