The Federal Government has announced the reopening of 47 unity schools that were previously closed due to security concerns.
In a statement on Thursday, the Federal Ministry of Education said that academic activities have fully resumed following the reinforcement of security measures within and around the affected schools. Many students have returned safely to campus, with some completing their December academic programmes and others successfully finishing their examinations.
The statement, signed by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, emphasized the government’s commitment to safeguarding students and ensuring uninterrupted education.
The ministry assured parents, guardians, and the public that the safety, welfare, and well-being of students remain a top priority. It added that the government continues to collaborate with relevant security agencies to maintain stability and restore normalcy across school environments nationwide.
“The Federal Government remains steadfast in its responsibility to protect every Nigerian child and uphold their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment,” the statement read. “This administration recognises education as a critical pillar for national development and is determined to prevent any disruption to the academic calendar.”
It further noted that the safe return of students and the successful conduct of examinations in several unity schools reflect the government’s commitment to keeping learning on track despite ongoing challenges.
