President Bola Tinubu is set to present the ₦54 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly on Friday.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, announced this during Thursday’s plenary session while reading a letter from the president notifying lawmakers of his intention to address a joint sitting of the National Assembly.
In the letter, President Tinubu requested permission to present the budget at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025.
The budget presentation follows the president’s submission of the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the National Assembly last week.
While the Senate approved the MTEF and FSP on Tuesday, the House of Representatives temporarily suspended consideration of the report on Wednesday after Speaker Abbas expressed concerns over the proposed crude oil benchmark price.
According to James Faleke, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, the executive had proposed oil benchmark prices of $64.85, $64.30, and $65.50 per barrel for 2026, 2027, and 2028, respectively. However, the committee adjusted the figures to $60 for 2026, $65 for 2027, and $70 for 2028.
The House is expected to resume deliberations on the report today.
