Nigerian comedian and singer Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Efe, has had his Twitch account suspended globally, just days after emerging as Africa’s most-watched streamer.
The entertainer disclosed the development on December 22, sharing a suspension notice from Twitch indicating that his channel, twitch.tv/carterefe, was restricted for violating the platform’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines. The channel had amassed approximately 459,000 followers at the time of the suspension.
The ban came shortly after Carter Efe’s December 17 livestream with Afrobeats star Davido, which recorded a peak viewership of about 90,000, setting a new streaming record in Africa and surpassing fellow Nigerian content creator Shank Comics.
While Twitch did not specify the exact reason for the suspension, the decision sparked widespread reactions from fans and supporters, many of whom took to social media to express solidarity. Some supporters published open letters to Twitch and urged the platform to reconsider or review the suspension.
Undeterred, Carter Efe swiftly transitioned to YouTube livestreams to maintain engagement with his growing fanbase, assuring followers that he remains committed to creating content despite the setback.
The suspension has reignited conversations around content moderation, creator accountability, and platform transparency, particularly as African streamers continue to gain global visibility on major digital platforms.
