The Super Eagles of Nigeria kicked off their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a hard-fought victory over the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in their opening Group C fixture.
Nigeria took the lead in the first half through centre-back Semi Ajayi, who found the net to give the Super Eagles an early advantage.
Tanzania responded after the break with an equaliser, but the Super Eagles regained control when former African Player of the Year, Ademola Lookman, struck to restore Nigeria’s lead and secure all three points.
The win puts Eric Chelle’s side in a strong position as they look to build momentum in the group. Nigeria will next face Tunisia on Saturday, December 27, aiming to maintain their winning start and strengthen their push for qualification.
