Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has handed over Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to the chairmen of the state’s 20 local government areas, describing the gesture as part of his administration’s commitment to strengthening governance at the grassroots.
The governor said the presentation fulfilled a pledge made to the council chairmen and was aimed at improving their operational capacity to effectively serve their communities.
Speaking on his behalf during the distribution ceremony in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, commended the council chairmen for their contributions to grassroots development and assured them of the state government’s continued collaboration to improve the welfare of residents.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ogun State chapter, and Odeda Local Government Chairman, Afolasade Adeyemo, welcomed the initiative and expressed gratitude to the governor for fulfilling his promise.
Adeyemo praised Governor Abiodun’s achievements across critical sectors such as education, healthcare, housing, and infrastructure, noting that the ISEYA agenda has positioned Ogun State as a model for development.
She added that the vehicles would enhance the chairmen’s ability to reach rural areas and respond more effectively to the needs and aspirations of residents at the grassroots level
