Former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua narrowly survived a fatal road accident on Monday morning while travelling on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua, who is currently on holiday in Nigeria following an exhibition victory over Jake Paul, was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck. Two other occupants of the vehicle died at the scene, while Joshua sustained only minor injuries.
Journalist Adeniyi Orojo reportedly assisted in rescuing Joshua from the back seat of the vehicle. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, later confirmed that the boxer appeared to be in stable condition after reviewing images from the crash scene.
Police and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident on the highway, which is known for frequent crashes.
