At least four Nigerians have been arrested in India for drug-related offences during separate anti-narcotics operations conducted between Thursday and late Saturday.
Reports from Indian media indicate that the arrests took place in different parts of the country as security agencies intensified efforts to clamp down on drug trafficking networks.
Those arrested were identified as 37-year-old Tanguy Nguessan, Touchi, Henry, and IK Prince.
According to the Free Press Journal, operatives of the Tulinj Police Detection Team, in collaboration with the Anti-Terrorism Cell, apprehended Nguessan during a raid in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara East. The operation followed intelligence that a suspected drug trafficker was arriving in the area.
Police reportedly recovered 60 grams of cocaine from Nguessan, valued at about ₹12.6m (approximately ₦205m on the international market). He remains in custody as investigations continue to trace his associates.
In another case, Bhaskar English reported that the Jaipur Police Commissionerate arrested two Nigerians, Touchi and Henry, in connection with the trafficking of MD drugs in Rajasthan. Their arrests followed earlier raids in Jaipur that led to the capture of three traffickers found with drugs worth ₹550,000.
Touchi was arrested in Faridabad, Haryana, while Henry was later picked up in Delhi. Police said both men were living in India illegally, with expired visas, and allegedly used forged documents to avoid detection. Investigators also recovered a list of suspected drug dealers operating across Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan.
Separately, ETV Bharat reported that the Agra unit of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force arrested IK Prince, described as a major drug trafficking figure, in Delhi’s Sadar Bazaar area after weeks of surveillance.
Prince was later taken to Mathura, where a court remanded him in judicial custody. Police said he was residing in India without valid travel documents and was linked to a heroin supply network uncovered in October.
Authorities claimed that 1.8 kilograms of heroin, valued between ₹6 and ₹8 crore, was recovered from Prince. Indian officials have reportedly informed the Nigerian Embassy and are continuing investigations into the wider drug network.
The arrests come amid heightened scrutiny of transnational drug trafficking operations involving foreign nationals in India.
