The Nigerian national electricity grid has collapsed once more, causing widespread outages across multiple states, according to updates from distribution companies. As of the afternoon of December 29, 2025, minimal power was reaching consumers.
Load reports from various DisCos indicate:
- Ibadan DisCo – 30 MW
- Abuja DisCo – 20 MW
- Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano – 0 MW
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed that a system disturbance occurred at 14:02, affecting power supply across its franchise area. Eko DisCo reported that gradual restoration is underway. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet issued a statement.
This latest collapse adds to a series of national grid failures in 2025, despite government assurances. The Federal Government had earlier secured plans for a $238 million loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to expand and strengthen the electricity network, including new transmission lines and substations.
Authorities continue to work on stabilizing the grid and restoring full power to affected areas.
