The Federal Government has reaffirmed that the new tax laws—comprising those that came into effect on June 26, 2025, as well as the remaining Acts scheduled for commencement on January 1, 2026—will be implemented as planned.
These reforms represent a once-in-a-generation opportunity to establish a fair, competitive, and resilient fiscal framework for the nation. The objective of the new tax laws is not to increase the tax burden on citizens, but to achieve a structural reset of the tax system, promote harmonisation, safeguard dignity, and strengthen the social contract between government and the people.
All stakeholders are urged to support the implementation phase, which has now fully entered the delivery stage.
The administration acknowledges the ongoing public discourse regarding alleged changes to certain provisions of the recently enacted tax laws. However, no substantial issue has been identified that justifies disrupting the reform process. Sustainable public trust is built through consistent, well-considered decision-making, not through premature or reactionary actions.
The administration reiterates its unwavering commitment to due process and the integrity of duly enacted laws. The Presidency will continue to work closely with the National Assembly to ensure the timely resolution of any issues that may arise.
The Federal Government assures all Nigerians of its continued commitment to acting in the overriding public interest, with the goal of delivering a tax system that promotes economic prosperity, equity, and shared responsibility.
