Chelsea failed to lift spirits at Stamford Bridge as they played out a 2-2 draw against struggling Bournemouth on Tuesday, extending their poor Premier League run to just one win in seven games.
All four goals came in the first 27 minutes. David Brooks gave Bournemouth an early lead before Cole Palmer equalised from the penalty spot. Enzo Fernandez then put Chelsea ahead with a brilliant strike into the top corner. However, Chelsea’s defensive frailties were exposed again when Justin Kluivert turned in a long throw from Antoine Semenyo to restore parity.
Frustrations grew among home fans after Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca substituted Palmer for Joao Pedro shortly after the hour mark. Bournemouth came close to snatching a late winner, but Enes Unal squandered a golden chance in stoppage time.
Elsewhere in the Premier League, Newcastle secured a 3-1 victory over Burnley after Joelinton and Yoane Wissa put them 2-0 up within seven minutes. Josh Laurent pulled one back for Burnley, who remain winless in 10 games, before Bruno Guimaraes sealed the win for Eddie Howe’s side.
Depleted Everton climbed into the top half with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, thanks to goals from James Garner and Thierno Barry. Meanwhile, West Ham and Brighton played out a dramatic 2-2 draw at the London Stadium. Jarrod Bowen scored early for West Ham, but Brighton’s Danny Welbeck equalised from a penalty before hitting the bar with a second spot-kick. Lucas Paqueta scored for West Ham, only for Joel Veltman to level for Brighton in the 60th minute.
Chelsea now face mounting pressure to arrest their slide as they look to climb out of the Premier League midtable.
