Six killed, two injured in Lagos–Ibadan expressway accident

Six people have lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries in a road accident at the NASFAT Junction along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident in a statement released in Abeokuta by the Sector Public Relations Officer, Odunsin Afolabi.

According to the FRSC, the crash involved a Mazda commercial bus and a Volvo truck. Preliminary findings indicate that overspeeding led to a loss of control, resulting in the fatal collision.

Afolabi said the accident occurred at about 2:36 p.m. on January 1, 2026, with FRSC rescue teams receiving the alert minutes later and arriving at the scene shortly after.

Personnel from the Mowe Unit, Ibafo Outpost, the Ojota Ambulance Team, as well as officers from the MTD RCCG Police Division and TRACE Mowe Division, participated in the rescue operation.

The injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital in Lotto for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.

Meanwhile, the FRSC Sector Commander in Ogun State, Corps Commander Akinwumi Fasakin, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
