The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), and two other defendants in Kuje Correctional Centre, pending a ruling on their bail application.
Malami is standing trial alongside the two co-defendants over allegations of money laundering and unlawful possession of assets valued at over ₦8 billion. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defence, the court adjourned proceedings to January 7, 2026, to deliver a ruling on the bail application.
In a related matter, the court, presided over by Justice Nwite, granted bail to the Bauchi State Commissioner for Finance, Yakubu Adamu. Adamu and a firm, Ayab Agro Products Company, are facing charges bordering on conspiracy and the alleged laundering of ₦4.65 billion. The commissioner pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court granted Adamu bail for ₦500 million, with two sureties required to provide landed property in Gwarinpa, Maitama, or Asokoro areas of Abuja. He is to remain in Kuje Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are fully met.
The case involving the Bauchi finance commissioner was adjourned to January 23, 2026, for continuation of trial.
