The National Working Committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dissolved the Kano State executive committee, along with all local government and ward leadership structures in the state.
The decision comes amid growing speculation over the imminent defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Oladipo Johnson, said the NWC would soon put in place a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.
The development follows an ongoing political rift between the NNPP’s national leader and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Governor Yusuf. Reports indicate that Yusuf is on the verge of leaving the NNPP for the APC, a move said to be strongly opposed by Kwankwaso.
The Kano State chapter of the APC has also confirmed that the governor is expected to officially join the party in the coming days.
Johnson stressed that the dissolution of the party’s structures in Kano was carried out in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.
