Suspected bandits on Tuesday night launched a deadly attack on personnel of the National Park Service (NPS) at Oloka village in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The attack, which occurred around 9:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026, reportedly caught the NPS officers off guard, leaving several personnel feared dead while others sustained injuries. The exact number of casualties has yet to be officially confirmed.
Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, said security forces have been mobilised to the area.
“Yes, there was an attack by yet-to-be-identified men on personnel of the National Park Service. The Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, Mobile Police Force operatives, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
Security operations are ongoing, while investigations have commenced to apprehend the perpetrators.
