The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its fight against violent crime with the arrest of three notorious “one-chance” armed robbery suspects linked to the brutal murder of a legal practitioner, Barrister Princess Chigbo Nwamaka Mediatrix, in Abuja.
The arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, PSC, ordering the immediate identification and apprehension of all individuals connected to the gruesome killing and similar criminal activities within the territory.
Between January 5 and 10, 2026, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, led by ACP Victor Ogbeide Godfrey, deployed reconstructive digital intelligence to track the victim’s mobile phone and carried out coordinated follow-up operations in Dei-Dei, Dakwa and Dan-Tata communities within the Kubwa area of the FCT.
The intelligence-led operations resulted in the arrest of the following suspects:
- Saifullahi Yusuf (22), from Kaduna State, resident in Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei, Abuja;
- Ishau Yusuf (24), also from Kaduna State and resident in Dan-Tata Community, Dei-Dei, Abuja;
- Minka’ilu Jibril, also known as Dan-Hajia, from Kaduna State.
Police confirmed that Saifullahi and Ishau Yusuf are biological brothers.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of a notorious “one-chance” armed robbery syndicate that has operated intermittently within the FCT for several years, particularly during festive periods.
Further findings showed that on January 5, 2026, at about 5:50 p.m., Barrister Princess Chigbo boarded a black Volkswagen Golf 3 along the Kubwa Expressway, unaware that the occupants were criminals. Once inside the vehicle, the suspects reportedly wound up the tinted windows, threatened her with weapons and attempted to extort ransom for her release. When she allegedly resisted, she was assaulted and pushed out of the moving vehicle along the expressway, leading to her death.
The suspects confessed to stealing the victim’s Android mobile phone, which was later sold at Dei-Dei for ₦120,000. According to police, Minka’ilu Jibril received ₦30,000, Saifullahi Yusuf ₦15,000, while Ishau Yusuf and another suspect, identified as Musa and currently at large, shared the remaining amount.
During the arrests, police recovered several items believed to have been used in their criminal operations, including five scissors, two sharp daggers, two knives, a long chain used to restrain victims, and a pair of pliers.
Investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover other criminal networks linked to the syndicate.
Commending the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, CP Dantawaye reassured residents of the FCT of the Command’s resolve to rid the territory of criminal elements. He also urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid boarding unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and promptly report suspicious activities through the police emergency numbers: 08032003913 and 07057337653.
