The governor appealed on Wednesday during the ninth-day spiritual prayers held in honour of the late monarch at the Akran Palace in Badagry.

The prayer session was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, members of the Lagos State Executive Council, serving and former public office holders, religious, traditional and political leaders, members of the royal family, and residents of Badagry.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described Oba Akran’s 49-year reign as impactful and meaningful, noting that the late monarch was a strong advocate of unity, peace, and togetherness among his people. He said the monarch left behind values that the people of Badagry must continue to uphold.

The governor extended his condolences to the people of Badagry, stating that it was both an honour and a privilege for him and members of his cabinet to attend the event in their official capacity.

He assured the community of his administration’s continued support for the late monarch’s family and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people of Badagry.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the late Akran of Badagry stood firmly for tradition and the preservation of the town’s rich cultural heritage. He urged residents to emulate these ideals to ensure lasting peace in the community.

He also announced that work would soon commence on the new Badagry central palace, adding that contractors have already been directed to begin construction. In addition, he assured residents that the second phase of the Market–General Hospital Road to Ajido would soon take off.

Highlighting ongoing development projects in Badagry, the governor said the town would continue to thrive as a peaceful and culturally rich destination for both local and international tourism.

Babatunde Hunpe, described the late monarch as more than a traditional ruler, calling him a symbol of unity, wisdom, peace, and cultural pride. He said Oba Akran consistently promoted dialogue, harmony, and development throughout his reign.

Hunpe also commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for attending the prayer session, describing his presence as a demonstration of empathetic leadership and respect for traditional institutions.

Similarly, the Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, described Oba Akran as a strong promoter of culture who fostered growth and development in Badagry, leaving behind a legacy that harmonised tradition with modern progress.
