The Lagos State Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property after a swift, intelligence-driven response to a security threat targeting prominent private schools in Ikeja. On Tuesday, 21st January 2026, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the schools reported receiving distressing WhatsApp messages from the same unknown number.
Following the reports, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team of police operatives, including experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other tactical teams, to the schools for on-the-spot security assessment and reinforcement.
A thorough sweep of the entire school environment—covering classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and surrounding areas—was carried out by EOD-CBRN specialists to rule out any Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) or other hazardous materials. No explosives or dangerous items were found, and the schools were declared safe for ongoing academic and administrative activities.
The Commissioner has ordered an intensified investigation to trace, identify, and apprehend the sender(s) of the threat message and bring them to justice. Police teams have been strategically deployed to the schools to provide continuous security for students, staff, and facilities.
The Lagos State Police Command reassures parents, guardians, school authorities, and the public that it remains proactive and fully committed to maintaining peace and safety. Members of the public are urged to stay calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station or via emergency numbers: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
