The national power grid has suffered another collapse, plunging parts of the country into darkness and disrupting electricity supply to millions of homes and businesses.
Findings revealed that power generation fell drastically from over 4,500 megawatts to as low as 24 megawatts by about 1:30 p.m. during the incident.
Reports indicate that all 23 power generation plants connected to the grid lost output, leading to zero electricity allocation to the country’s 11 distribution companies.
The cause of the grid failure was not immediately known, and as of the time of filing this report, the Transmission Company of Nigeria had not released a detailed explanation.
This marks the first grid collapse of 2026, occurring just weeks after a similar outage on December 29, 2025, which also resulted in widespread power disruptions nationwide.
