The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has successfully disbursed a total of ₦1,326,550,000 (One Billion, Three Hundred and Twenty-Six Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025/2026 academic session. The disbursement, which occurred on January 19, 2026, will benefit 6,308 eligible students who have met all the requirements of the NELFUND student loan program.
As part of the disbursement process, NELFUND ensured that the funds are applied directly to eligible students’ accounts, allowing them to proceed with their registration and access classes without delays. This marks another significant milestone in NELFUND’s ongoing commitment to supporting tertiary education in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by the Fund, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, emphasized the organization’s dedication to transparency and student welfare. He reassured both students and stakeholders that NELFUND is actively working with universities to ensure the proper reconciliation of beneficiary student lists and timely application of disbursed funds.
“NELFUND remains fully committed to ensuring that approved student loan funds are disbursed promptly and applied appropriately. We are working closely with all partner institutions to resolve any administrative gaps and to ensure that no eligible student is disadvantaged,” Mr. Sawyerr said.
The Fund has also outlined its standard procedures to ensure that eligible students can seamlessly register for their courses without hindrance. NELFUND is in constant communication with the appropriate university officials to reconcile the student beneficiary lists, apply the disbursed funds promptly, and prevent any misinformation or unnecessary distress.
