Today, I had the honor of joining the Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities across Nigeria to officially launch the University Advancement Initiative, marking a significant step towards creating financially resilient, globally competitive, and future-ready Nigerian universities.
During this event, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigeria Higher Education Foundation (#NHEF), aiming to bolster university advancement capabilities in federal universities. This collaboration will focus on capacity development, structured alumni and stakeholder engagement systems, and the adoption of internationally recognized best practices customized to the Nigerian context.
Federal universities are the backbone of our national development, but the increasing demands they face call for smarter, diversified, and sustainable funding strategies that go beyond traditional public financing. University advancement is not just about fundraising; it is a comprehensive system designed to strengthen philanthropy, industry partnerships, governance, credibility, and long-term sustainability.
The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) fully supports this initiative. While the government remains committed to public funding, we are also fostering transparency, accountability, and strong public-private partnerships that will help our universities thrive.
Together, we can build federal universities that are sustainable, impactful, and nationally transformative, fully aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR.
