The Acting Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur, has officially signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, with a total budget size of ₦892.448 billion. The assent ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Deputy Governor’s Office in Maiduguri, the state capital.

- Budget Size: The total budget stands at ₦892.448 billion, a ₦2.37 billion increase from the initial proposal of ₦890.33 billion.
- Priority Areas: The budget focuses on addressing critical sectors, including education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and the rehabilitation and reintegration of internally displaced persons (IDPs). These sectors are seen as vital for the state’s post-insurgency recovery.
- Additional Funds: The increase in the budget will strengthen the health and education sectors, with funds earmarked for projects such as the construction of a lecture theatre at the College of Nursing and enhanced infrastructure at the College of Health Technology, Maiduguri.
Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, reassured the public that the legislature would support the implementation of the budget, ensuring that it delivers tangible benefits to the people of Borno State.
Governor Babagana Zulum had initially presented the budget, which he tagged the ‘Budget of Sustained Recovery and Growth’, with a focus on sustainable development and improved service delivery. The budget includes ₦353.77 billion for recurrent expenditure and ₦536.56 billion for capital expenditure, reflecting the government’s commitment to long-term growth and stability.
This new budget provides the framework for the Borno State government to continue its development initiatives, particularly in sectors that directly affect the welfare of its citizens.
