In a move aimed at fully operationalizing the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON), the Federal Government has inaugurated an 11-member project delivery committee. The committee will work towards completing key infrastructure projects that will facilitate ALSCON’s smooth operation and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.

- ALSCON: Three representatives
- Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC): Two representatives
- Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN): Two representatives
- Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC): Two representatives
- Federal Ministry of Power: Two representatives
Committee’s Terms of Reference:
The committee has been tasked with:
- Connecting 132kV transmission lines: Fast-tracking the connection of critical lines, including the Itu-Aba and Itu-Calabar 132kV lines.
- Production of Status Reports and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs): The committee will create reports and diagrams for the 132kV and 330kV lines to assess progress and facilitate operational success.
- Joint Commissioning: The committee will oversee the joint commissioning of the 132kV and 330kV transmission lines.
- Funding Requirements: Identifying and securing funding for the completion of transmission line projects, particularly the 330kV lines connecting to ALSCON.
Minister’s Statement:
During the inauguration, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, emphasized the significance of the project for the nation’s industrial and economic development. The successful completion of these transmission line projects is seen as a critical step in boosting the capacity of ALSCON and its contribution to Nigeria’s economy.
