The pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, has been increased to ₦835 per litre in Lagos and ₦839 per litre in Abuja following a new price adjustment by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.
On Wednesday, several NNPC retail outlets in both cities confirmed the increase, pointing to another round of fuel price hikes that may soon affect consumers nationwide.
The latest adjustment comes just days after the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced an upward review of its gantry price, raising the cost of petrol from ₦699 to ₦799 per litre. The refinery explained that the increase followed the end of a temporary price support introduced during the festive season.
According to Dangote Refinery, the earlier price reduction was a short-term measure designed to ease financial pressure on Nigerians during the holidays, with the new pricing reflecting a return to normal market conditions.
Following the review, petrol sold at MRS filling stations—major distributors of Dangote-refined products—now retails at about ₦839 per litre, aligning closely with NNPC’s updated pump prices.
The increase is expected to heighten concerns over the rising cost of living, as higher fuel prices typically translate into increased transportation costs and broader inflationary pressures.
Dangote Refinery noted that this is the second time it has implemented festive-period price relief, describing the move as part of efforts to reduce the economic burden on the public during peak spending seasons.
