The Labour Party has expressed appreciation to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for officially recognizing its Interim National Leadership, headed by Senator Nenadi Usman, as the legitimate and lawful governing body of the party.
This recognition follows a court order instructing INEC to acknowledge the interim leadership. The electoral commission’s website now reflects Usman’s position as the chairperson of the Labour Party’s caretaker committee.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Senator Usman, commended INEC for “upholding the law, justice, and constitutional principles” and for demonstrating unwavering respect for the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The statement continued, “This development marks the end of the prolonged internal challenges and uncertainties the party has faced over the past year. We call on our members nationwide to unite and support the interim leadership as it works diligently to reposition the party for success in the upcoming elections.”
The Labour Party reaffirmed its commitment as a major opposition force, dedicated to offering Nigerians a credible, people-centered alternative. It emphasized that achieving this goal requires unity, dedication, and collective effort from all its members.
Additionally, the party expressed gratitude to its supporters for their continued faith and resilience, commended the judiciary for upholding justice, and thanked the Nigerian media for its principled pursuit of truth and fairness.
“As we strengthen our nationwide structures, we ask for continued patience and support from Nigerians. Aware of the limited time before the next election cycle, the party remains committed to working tirelessly to restore the Labour Party’s path to victory and accomplish its objectives swiftly,” the statement concluded.
