The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has formally dismissed social media claims suggesting that it failed to provide adequate medical care to Ms. Ifunanya Lucy Nwagene, who tragically passed away following a snake bite.
In an official statement signed by the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Bioku Muftau, the hospital clarified that Ms. Nwagene was brought to FMC Abuja on January 31, 2026, presenting with severe neurotoxic complications from the snake bite. Upon her arrival, medical personnel responded immediately, providing emergency interventions including resuscitation, intravenous fluids, intranasal oxygen, and administration of polyvalent anti-snake venom.
FMC Abuja extended its deepest condolences to the Nwagene family, describing the incident as a profound loss. The hospital emphasized that reports alleging the unavailability of anti-snake venom or substandard medical care are unfounded and do not reflect the facts of the case.
The management reaffirmed its confidence in the professionalism, dedication, and expertise of its medical team and reiterated its commitment to transparency, integrity, and excellence in patient care. The public was urged to rely on verified information from credible sources and to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated claims on social media.
