Nigeria’s oil exports are set to decline by 225,000 barrels per day in February due to scheduled maintenance on the Bonga Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility, operated by Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo). Gas production will also drop by 150 million standard cubic feet per day during the maintenance period.
SNEPCo confirmed that the turnaround maintenance is a statutory integrity assurance programme designed to extend the operational life of the FPSO, which is located 120 kilometres offshore in over 1,000 metres of water. The facility is capable of producing 225,000 barrels of oil daily.
Managing Director Ronald Adams emphasized that the exercise will ensure safe and efficient operations for another 15 years, reduce unplanned downtime, and strengthen the asset’s overall resilience. The maintenance includes inspections, regulatory certification, engineering modifications, integrity upgrades, and subsea assurance activities.
Operations are expected to resume in March following the completion of the scheduled turnaround.
