Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) have signed an enhanced gas supply agreement aimed at guaranteeing adequate energy supply for Dangote Group’s ongoing and future expansion projects.
Under the agreement, three Dangote subsidiaries—Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote Fertiliser Plant, and Dangote Cement Plc—scaled up their Gas Sales and Purchase Agreements (GSPA) with NNPCL subsidiaries Nigerian Gas Marketing Limited and NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company Limited (NGIC).
The upscaled deal is designed to support Dangote Group’s Vision 2030, driving higher production capacity, improved energy efficiency, and increased use of cleaner energy sources across its operations.
The agreements were signed during the unveiling of the NNPCL Gas Master Plan 2026 (NGMP 2026) at the NNPC Towers in Abuja.
The Managing Director of Dangote Petroleum Refinery, David Bird, signed on behalf of the refinery, while Arvid Pathak, Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement Plc, signed for the cement business. Mustapha Matawalle executed the agreement for Dangote Fertiliser FZE.
Speaking at the event, Bird described the deal as a critical milestone in the refinery’s expansion drive, noting that it secures the substantial energy requirements needed for increased production capacity.
Pathak said the agreement aligns with Dangote Cement’s strategic objectives, particularly in supporting compressed natural gas (CNG) adoption and meeting rising energy demand as local production expands. He added that the partnership reinforces the transition to cleaner fuel alternatives for industrial and automotive use.
Dangote Fertiliser FZE also noted that the agreement would underpin its fertiliser expansion projects, stressing that natural gas remains a key input in fertiliser production.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, described the Gas Master Plan as a shift from policy formulation to disciplined execution, anchored on commercial sustainability and coordinated sector-wide development.
