South African star Tyla emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, edging out Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr.
Tyla clinched the honour with her song Push 2 Start, defeating Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Gimme Dat by Ayra Starr and Wizkid, and Hope & Love by Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin.
The category, introduced to celebrate and elevate African music on the global stage, once again saw strong Nigerian representation, with three Nigerian artistes making the final shortlist.
With this win, Tyla becomes a two-time recipient of the award, having previously won the inaugural Best African Music Performance in 2024 with her global hit Water.
