Traders at Onitsha Main Market have reopened their shops following Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s directive after a one-week closure tied to the Monday sit-at-home order.
Shops from Egerton to Ose Foodstuff Market and key entrances like Emeka Offor Plaza and Sokoto Road are now operational, with customers returning.
The governor warned that failure to reopen could lead to further market closures. Security personnel, including police and army units, were deployed to enforce compliance.
Soludo has consistently condemned the four-year sit-at-home practice, calling it economic sabotage, and has taken steps to restore normalcy, including youth amnesty and a peace committee.
