South Africa have moved to assume hosting duties for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) following Morocco’s reported withdrawal from the tournament just 60 days before the scheduled kick-off.
The sudden development prompted swift contingency measures, with South Africa identified as a suitable replacement due to its robust sporting infrastructure, organisational capacity, and proven experience in hosting major continental and global competitions.
Further details are expected as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) finalises arrangements to ensure the tournament proceeds as planned.
