The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Lagos State Chapter, has named Reverend Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi, Founder of Love of Christ Generation Church C&S (Worldwide), as its Iconic Woman of the Month for January.
The honour is part of a newly introduced initiative by NAWOJ Lagos aimed at celebrating womanhood, impact, and philanthropy across various sectors of society.
Speaking on the initiative, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Lagos, Mrs. Jumoke Johnson, explained that the programme is designed to recognise women who are making meaningful and far-reaching contributions in their chosen fields. She noted that one woman is selected and celebrated each month, with all 12 honourees to be recognised at a grand finale at the end of the year.
According to Johnson, the selection of Reverend Mother Ajayi underscores NAWOJ Lagos’ commitment to highlighting women whose lives and work inspire positive societal change.
“The nomination of Reverend Mother Esther Abimbola Ajayi as the NAWOJ Lagos Iconic Woman of the Month for January is in recognition of her outstanding philanthropy across Lagos State and Nigeria, as well as her global humanitarian impact,” she said.
Reverend Mother Ajayi is widely acclaimed for her humanitarian efforts through the Esther Ajayi Foundation, which focuses on education, humanitarian relief, and social development. The foundation provides scholarships, disability support, community development initiatives, and assistance to repatriated citizens and other vulnerable groups.
Her philanthropic interventions span multiple sectors, including notable support for the Police Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 2, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council, and the award of scholarships to hundreds of students in public and private tertiary institutions nationwide. She has also sponsored medical outreaches, supported individuals with chronic illnesses, and extended assistance to numerous organisations across the country.
Beyond Nigeria’s borders, Reverend Mother Ajayi has carried out humanitarian missions in several conflict-affected regions, highlighting the international reach of her compassion and service.
She pastors a large congregation at her cathedral in Victoria Island, Lagos, where she is revered as a spiritual mother and mentor to many.
Born in Mushin, Lagos, Reverend Mother Ajayi attributes her resilience, quick thinking, and deep compassion for humanity to her upbringing within the community.
Reflecting on her early challenges in the United Kingdom, she once said, “I told God, if you can see me through this, nobody will cry to me and cry back, if it’s genuine.”
