The Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) has suspended its 84-day industrial action with effect from midnight on Friday, February 6, bringing temporary relief to public health institutions across the country.
The decision was reached after an all-night meeting between JOHESU leaders and government representatives on Thursday. The talks were led by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Mohammed Dingyadi, and focused on addressing the demands raised by the union.
JOHESU had embarked on the strike over unresolved issues bordering on welfare, remuneration, and conditions of service for its members. The prolonged action had disrupted services in many public hospitals nationwide.
Following the outcome of the meeting, the union directed its members to resume work while discussions with the government continue. Both parties agreed to sustain dialogue to ensure the full implementation of agreed terms and prevent a breakdown in industrial harmony.
