The Lagos State Government has intensified enforcement of its ban on street trading, carrying out several clean-up operations across major parts of the state on Thursday.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the exercise targeted areas where traders had taken over roadways, causing traffic obstruction and posing safety risks.
According to Wahab, the Environmental Task Force intervened at Ogudu Road by Ojota Junction, Iyana-Ipaja Under Bridge, and Egbeda Junction. During the operations, goods and wares were confiscated, and 15 individuals were arrested.
He disclosed that all suspects would be prosecuted, while the seized items would be forfeited to the state in accordance with existing laws. Wahab reiterated that street trading remains prohibited in Lagos.
He added that the government would continue to enforce the law firmly and fairly to ensure roads remain safe, orderly, and accessible to all users.
Residents and traders were advised to comply with state regulations to promote safer and more efficient road use across the city.
