President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to permit trucks transporting transit goods to the Niger Republic to move through the Benin Republic and Kebbi State.
The directive was revealed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, during a courtesy visit to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
According to Adeniyi, the decision is intended to facilitate smoother regional trade while safeguarding Nigeria’s national security and economic interests. He explained that the policy shift is designed to ease the movement of goods across borders and address persistent challenges in cross-border logistics.
The initiative also aims to eliminate long-standing bottlenecks affecting transit trade, without compromising regulatory control or border security measures.
