President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday received a senior delegation from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), led by its Commander, General Dagvin Anderson, at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting, which brought together top Nigerian and U.S. security officials, was disclosed in a post on X by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.
According to the post, President Tinubu, accompanied by the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the nation’s service chiefs, held discussions with General Anderson, members of his team, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Keith Heffern.
The U.S. delegation included Mr. Heffern; General Anderson; AFRICOM’s Command Sergeant Major and Senior Enlisted Leader, Garric M. Banfield; and AFRICOM’s Senior Foreign Policy Adviser, Ambassador Peter Vrooman.
On the Nigerian side, those in attendance included the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd); the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Waidi Shaibu; the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant-General Emmanuel Uandiandeye; the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Tosin Ajayi.
The meeting underscores ongoing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in addressing regional security challenges across West Africa.
