Several people have been killed in a tragic road accident that occurred early Sunday morning at Kwanar Barde in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State, according to local authorities.
The fatal crash involved a trailer heading towards Gujungu, which reportedly lost control due to reckless driving. The incident claimed the lives of more than 30 people, while many others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at hospitals across the state.
Confirming the incident, the Kano State Government’s spokesperson said the trailer crashed after the driver allegedly drove recklessly, resulting in heavy casualties.
Reacting to the tragedy, Governor Abba Yusuf expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, describing the incident as heartbreaking. In a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said the accident was a great loss not only to the affected families but to the entire people of Kano State.
Governor Yusuf offered prayers for the deceased and their families, asking Allah to grant them the strength to bear the painful loss, while also wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
In response, the governor directed the Ministry of Health to ensure that all victims receiving treatment in hospitals are provided with free and adequate medical care. He also instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to assess the situation and extend necessary support to the affected families.
The governor further urged motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to strictly adhere to traffic regulations, warning that reckless driving must be avoided to prevent a recurrence of such devastating incidents.
