The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed a fatal accident under the LASUTH Bridge on Airport Road, Ikeja, where a DAF articulated truck struck a cyclist. Preliminary reports indicate the collision occurred as both the cyclist and truck attempted to navigate the roundabout simultaneously. The cyclist was fatally crushed on the spot.
LASTMA officers promptly intercepted the fleeing truck driver and handed him over to Ikeja Police for investigation and prosecution. The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SHEMU) removed the cyclist’s remains to restore traffic flow and ensure safety.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa, expressed sorrow over the loss, offering condolences to the family. He urged cyclists and commercial motorbike riders to prioritize safety, comply with traffic regulations, and avoid highways and high-risk routes.
Giwa highlighted the government’s ongoing public sensitization campaigns to educate vulnerable road users on safe travel and reiterated Lagos State’s commitment to road safety, strict enforcement, and protection of all commuters.
If you want, I can also draft a punchy social media version for faster public circulation. Do you want me to do that?
