The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the party in Abia State.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.
According to the statement, the National Working Committee (NWC), acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), approved the appointment of members of the Abia State Caretaker Committee.
Former Commissioner with the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Dr. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, was appointed Chairman of the nine-member committee, while Felix Nwagbara will serve as Secretary.
Other members of the committee are Chief Ochiobi Fidel Chukwuemeka, Engr. Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Samuel Chukwudi, Hon. Seth Agomuo, Mrs. Ugo Kalu, and Barrister Obinna Nwaogwugwu.
The statement noted that the caretaker committee is mandated to manage the party’s affairs in Abia State in accordance with Section 21(2)(a–b) of the PDP Constitution for a period not exceeding 90 days or until a new state executive is elected.
It added that in carrying out its assignment, members of the committee are to be guided strictly by the provisions of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).
