The Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), General Dagvin Anderson, has reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nigeria-led solutions to the country’s security challenges through intelligence sharing and technical advisory assistance.
The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) through the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba.
According to the statement, General Anderson met with senior Nigerian security officials, including the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.); the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu; and other top military officials.
Uba said the discussions focused on shared security interests and the long-standing partnership between Nigeria and the United States in countering terrorist organisations that pose threats to Nigeria, the United States, the wider region and the global community.
“The leaders also discussed military training and laid the groundwork for future force development, real-world training, joint exercises and other unique capabilities that the United States can provide,” the defence spokesperson said.
He added that General Anderson visited the joint US–Nigeria intelligence fusion cell, which strengthens Nigeria’s intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities while building sustainable capacity for real-time operational outcomes.
During the visit, the AFRICOM commander reiterated the United States’ resolve to support Nigeria through intelligence sharing and technical advising designed to enhance the country’s independent operational capacity.
The statement noted that the engagement underscores continued cooperation between both countries in addressing evolving security challenges.
