The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced a revised cargo port charge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, set at N15 per kilogram, following consultations with cargo handling stakeholders.
The announcement, made via a statement signed by FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, comes after weeks of opposition from Customs Licensed Cargo Agents, who had resisted an earlier proposed increase to N20/kg. The disagreement had disrupted cargo operations, prompting FAAN to negotiate a compromise to restore normal activity at the airport.
The new rate represents a balanced middle ground between the proposed N20/kg and the previous N7/kg charge in place since 2008. The agreement was reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday, February 9, 2026, chaired by the Director of Cargo Development and Services, Mr. Lekan Thomas.
“After constructive deliberations, both parties agreed on a revised port charge of N15/kg, representing a compromise between the earlier proposed N20/kg and the existing N7/kg,” FAAN said.
The authority noted that the adjustment is expected to ease tensions within the air cargo value chain, reopen stalled warehouses, and balance infrastructure funding needs with operators’ cost concerns. FAAN emphasized that the revised charge also aims to improve the ease of doing business at MMIA while supporting the sustainable development and modernization of the airport’s cargo infrastructure.
